Mad Max and Black Betty While only being a couple years old, Betty has lived a long life already. Leonie Griffiths While only being a couple years old, Betty has lived a long life already.
The Madass 125 first caught Max's eye - which with its odd looks and halfbreed styling isn't hard to do - and soon after, was tucked up in the garage along with an XJR 1300 and a Hornet 600. She was christened Black Betty, and along with Mad Max, they've made quite a pair.
Betty has been used for a variety of things, proving the versatility of the Madass; commuting, learning to ride, stunt riding and stirring up the pits at Innisfail and Townsville with interest. Most of her miles were done on the Gillies Range on Sundays, and less often the Kuranda Range with scooters and the coastal road to Port Douglas. She's been a hard working bike to some of us, and a novelty to most.
If you spot Max and Betty running around, feel free to stop and have a chat. Though if you ask about her, you'll get a full history and rundown on the bike.
More photos of Betty's mischief to come!
